Mash Games chose to stay away from options such as crowd sourcing, and has been actively engaging followers through physics demo releases and the BMX Streets mobile game. Myself along with the small Mash Games team, have been working incredibly hard to define and develop the future of BMX and other extreme sports video game physics.
This game is hands down the best BMX game. To think a single developer was able to create such a sweet game is incredible. I also love the fact that with a little knowledge you can create and insert your own custom skate parks or download one of many that the small but ever growing modding community has created.
You need to get this game. Awesome game, with natural feeling controls. Looks nice. Its basically a sneak peak for whats to come from Mash Games with BMX Streets, but is still extremely fun in its self.
Plenty of people in the community keep it going with custom maps and characters to add a little razzle dazzle which is pretty nice. Its a great time killer also. My one and only complaint that i have with this game is the inability to turn off the slow-mo for the left stick. But thats no where near a deal breaker. This game has a lot of potential.
Skate 3. Very smooth and realistic physics with a very similar control setup as the Skate games. Theres not too much to ride in the game though. For the most part you only get the half pipe with a few surrounding street obstacles. But the variety of tricks in all catagories including balance, airs, grinds, ect allow it to stay engaging. There are a few bugs here and there.
Sometimes the character will fall for no reason or just act wacky when you try to do a trick but its rare for me and didnt really effect my experience playing. The game was updated frequently even before it came to Steam as well. Several new tricks were added just recently. Instead of using the button based tricks of the Dave Mirra and Mat Hoffman games, PIPE uses the right analog stick to shift your weight or control the direction of the tricks, the triggers and bumpers controlling your feet and hands, left stick for steering and rotation, and the A button to pedal.
Although the controls can be overwhileming when you first start the game up, that is part of the charm. Learning how to pull off different tricks and landing them smoothly is incredibly satisfying.
This game does feature a small tutorial, but the bulk of your time is probably going to be spent in the titular Pipe arena. Skate City. I do wish the area was bigger, but there is still plenty of fun to be had just trying to come up with new lines, gaps, or just working on nailing the different tricks. It is very very very important to mention that this is essentially a demo for the full game, so by purchasing this, you are supporting the developer and development of the upcoming BMX Streets game.
Huge respect to mash for making such a great game and taking everyones input and adding what we ask for. This is easily the best BMX game that has ever been made. Yes, it is more a a physics demo, as the developer is using this to test the water for the BMX Streets title. But keeping this in mind, the game offers so much to a creative gamer, I would compare it to the Skate series in terms of its freedom.
I am always finding new lines to ride, new combos to hit, and more ways to add some style to my riding. Where the game really shines is in its modding community. The maps made by members of the community keep the game feeling fresh, and hundreds of hours could be spent in these maps alone. This game is almost crucial for any BMX or action sports enthusiast, and I think it has even helped me with my riding IRL by helping me visualize things.
The controls are great each trick makes sense do to with the whole bumpers and triggers as hands and feet. It runs smooth on my pc and the graphics are good. This game is so well made and looks good, if like me you wanted a skate style game with a BMX instead of skateboard this game is for you.
